Mannaminne (Living memory) open air museum is a Swedish cultural heritage on the beautiful Höga Kusten. Its founder artist Anders Åberg had a vision to bring in the world and create a forum for ideas and dreams, and preserve the memories of the past. He started his project in the 1980ies on a piece of forest land in Nordingrå, close to his father Pelle Åbergs art studio. Together with his wife Barbro and friends, he has for decades developed Mannaminne, which today consists of 60 buildings of cultural and historic value. Some are built on the spot, others have been transported from far and wide like the farmhouse from Hungary, the stave church from Norway, the log house from Viljandi in Estonia and the pavilion from China. Most buildings are used for permanent or temporary exhibitions. The complex has also many artworks placed outdoors. Along with collected items such as boats, trams, cars, airplanes and other things, this represents a unique collection of art and history. You can even stay in a work of art like Hotel Sestola gård or Norgehuset. Sestola was a large farm in Finland and all the the 15 rooms of the hotel are decorated with motifs from Finland. It also has an absolutely stunning view over the Bay of Kråknäs. At B & B in the Norway house you live in the middle of an exhibition. For some years now the museum is owned by the Mannaminne Foundation who also runs the place in collaboration with Anders and Barbro Åberg. Annual events include workshops, exhibitions, themed tours, theater performances, weekly mass in the Stavkyrka Church and the popular New Orleans festival. Anders Åberg's projects have not stopped in time. Right now he is building a sculpture park and a new art museum. It will be a welcome addition to the exhibition space. This is the fourth summer we show art in Mannaminne. This time artnetco have at disposal the Art Museum, the house from Estonia, the first tram in Tallinn and the tram from Norrköping. In the trams we hang the art so that it can be viewed from outside.
Anders Åberg is perhaps Sweden's most prolific artist in terms of public art. His three-dimensional artworks of houses and factories adorn hospitals and libraries all over Sweden, Stockholm-Arlanda Airport has his sculptures, Solna metro station boasts his wonderful underground art with motives from Northern Sweden.
